Social Services
Many people are surprised to learn that hospice care may include so much more than just medical care from a doctor or nurse. At Concord Hospice in Sherman, Texas, we offer a full complement of emotional, social, and spiritual services, in addition to our core priority of ensuring your loved one remains as comfortable as possible in their final days.
Spiritual Services
We offer chaplain services throughout your time with us. This means we can provide spiritual support should you or your loved one desire it. We strive to match you with an appropriate clergy member of a similar religious background who has experience in end-of-life spiritual support.
Bereavement Support
Losing someone you love is an incredibly painful and jarring experience. Processing the loss is disruptive, stressful, and doesn’t happen overnight. Complicating matters is that every single person processes grief differently and at their own pace.
Our network of grief counselors and other bereavement support professionals are available while your loved one is in hospice care – and for up to a year afterward for surviving family members and loved ones.
We encourage our patients and their families to take advantage of these services and to obtain the emotional support they need, during hospice care as well as after. This is especially true for loved ones serving as caregivers: it’s critical that you take care of yourself, so you’re sufficiently equipped to care for others.
Social Work
Medical social workers (MSW) on our staff are available to help with nonmedical issues that tend to materialize during some of the most stressful times of our lives, like when a loved one is dying. Our MSWs can help with issues, such as:
- Communication strategies
- Conflict resolution
- Family and relationship conflicts
- Stress management
Our social workers can help identify and coordinate assistance, as needed, from available community resources for the types of problems that tend to accompany a loved one dying – covering everything from financial planning to determining insurance benefits and more.
